The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR), an iconic event combining vintage motorcycles and dapper attire brings together riders and motorcycle enthusiasts from around the globe.
In the spirit of style, sophistication, and community, Quad Lock proudly partnered with the event to support and raise awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.
Our very own Quad Lock employee, Alex was one of the 63 riders taking part in the Quad Lock team who was all geared up for this incredible cause, taking on the day with a Quad Lock-wrapped classic BMW R80 which was purposely built for the event (more on this below).
Keep on reading for a quick recap of Alex’s first-time experience of participating in the DGR!
A Day in the Life of a Distinguished Gentleman
Alex, can you describe the atmosphere and overall experience of the event?
There was a buzz of excitement around from the second we arrived. You could tell the participants were excited about the day and the inclement weather was not going to get in the way of a good time. Being 1 of 500 loud motorbikes roaring down beach road is a euphoric feeling that's hard to describe!
What was your standout moment of the day?
The standout moment of the day was all the riders arriving at Point Ormond. I think roughly 500+ bikes over 90 minutes pulled into the car park. It was awesome seeing such a diverse collection of motorcycles from classic cafe racers through to adventure bikes.
How did you prepare for the ride, in terms of your motorcycle and your outfit?
It was my first time riding a motorbike in a suit! With the help of the events team, we nailed the brief of making me look like a gentleman.
Thankfully Scott Pye (@scottpye19) had prepared everything bike related. Fitted off with a Quad Lock Handlebar Mount Pro and Vibration Dampener. All I had to do was show up, lock on, and ride.
The Bike Build: BMW R80 Cafe Racer Build
From upgrading the forks to adding a bobber seat watch how Scotty completely transformed his BMW R80 Cafe Racer in our 3-part Youtube series below:
To quickly recap, Scotty transforms the BMW R80 over a 3-part Youtube series incorporating several noteworthy additions. These include a brand new MoTec C125 Dash to the build (the same dash in his V8 supercar), a custom Quad Lock-wrapped tank, upgrades to the battery, forks, and brakes and of course, a sleek new black paint job. This was topped off with our all-black Handlebar Mount Pro to match the overall aesthetic.
We spotted many riders in the motorcycle community this year who were geared up with Quad Lock on the day, here are a few of our favourites that we saw on Instagram.
